S. Gnaneswaran, born on September 22, 1999, in Old Suramangalam, Salem, Tamil Nadu, is deeply rooted in his hometown, where he currently resides. His father, M. Shanmugam, works as a watchman, while his mother, Palaniyammal, works as a coolie. Gnaneswaran is the youngest among his siblings, with an elder brother named Santhosh Kumar and two elder sisters, Sangeetha and Prema. Despite his siblings not being involved in kabaddi, Gnaneswaran discovered his passion for the sport at the age of 17, inspired by a friend's kabaddi practice sessions. Specializing as a Left Cover Defender, Gnaneswaran excels in the art of the follow, under the guidance of coaches Santosh and Gopal at the Illangalai Kabaddi Club in Salem. His favorite player, Surjeet Singh from the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), inspires him with his exceptional cover skills. Apart from kabaddi, Gnaneswaran enjoys playing cricket and follows the sport closely. Despite his sporting commitments, he is dedicated to his education, currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and Sports (BPES) as a second-year student. Gnaneswaran's kabaddi journey has seen notable achievements, including representing his school district in 2017 and securing first place in the Inter-University tournament in 2022 while representing Vinayaga Mission University. In the Mettur tournament of 2020, playing for Illangalai, he showcased his skills and made a mark with his exceptional performance. With aspirations of securing a government job through the sports quota, Gnaneswaran remains focused on his kabaddi career while pursuing his academic endeavors.
