Riya Mehta, born on September 2, 2004, in Bhooth, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, currently residing in Rohru, shares a passion for kabaddi nurtured in her school days. Daughter of Vinod Kumar, a farmer, and Barla Devi, a homemaker, Riya found her calling in kabaddi during her 9th standard. She excels as a Right Raider with a remarkable Handtouch technique. Under the mentorship of her father Vinod, Riya embarked on her kabaddi journey. She honed her skills further under the guidance of coaches like Dinesh Chauhan, Rajat Machrata, Digvijay Roni, and currently Sonia Malik at Gurukul Mormajra Karnal. Her favorite player, Champa Thakur, inspires her with her impeccable tackles and ankle holds. Representing her school, college, district, state, and nationals, Riya's career highlights include her stellar performance at the state level in Bilaspur, where she played against State Hostel, Bilaspur, representing Shimla in 2023, achieving a memorable super 10. Outside kabaddi, Riya enjoys shooting ball, having even participated at the national level. With aspirations set on representing India, Riya envisions a future where she can don the national colors and make her mark in the world of kabaddi. Alongside her kabaddi pursuits, she indulges in cricket recreationally and is pursuing her college graduation in BA.
