Tharun Athith, playing for Kattakudi Sports in the YKS TN Clubs 2024 tournament, was born on March 14, 2002, in Chinnamanur, Theni, Tamil Nadu, where he currently resides. His father, Ramesh, a former kabaddi player for Madurai Kamaraj University, works in farming, while his mother, Nirmala, is a homemaker. Tharun has a younger brother named Vasikaran, who also plays kabaddi. Tharun started playing kabaddi at the age of 12, inspired by his father, who was his first coach. His father taught him the basics of the game. In class 11, Tharun joined the Sports Authority of India (SAI) where he received advanced training from coach Arivazhagan, focusing on techniques and fitness. He later joined SRM University through a sports quota, receiving professional training from coaches Aravind and Muni. Playing as a right corner defender, Tharun's best skill is the double angle. His favorite skills include the double thigh hold and chain tackle, skills honed with the help of his father and coach Aravind. He practices at SRM University, Kattankalathur. Tharun's favorite player is his father, Ramesh, who was a local hero and a right corner defender. Ramesh's legacy and involvement in the Theni District Kabaddi Association have been instrumental in Tharun's development as a player. Tharun has represented in the South Zone University and played for the Palani Tuskers in the Yuva Kabaddi Series Summer Edition in Mysore. His career highlights include being part of the winning team in the Yuva Kabaddi Series and reaching the quarterfinals in the South Zone University Tournament. Apart from kabaddi, Tharun enjoys cricket and is a big fan of Sachin Tendulkar, regularly watching international matches and the IPL. He completed his B.Sc. in Physical Education in 2024. Tharun aspires to play in the Pro Kabaddi League for Tamil Thalaivas, inspired by two players from his place who are already part of the PKL. Additionally, he aims to secure a stable government job through his achievements in kabaddi.
