Omkar Rathod

Omkar Kisan Rathod, born on February 6, 2005, in Vijaypur, Karnataka, currently represents Sangli in the KMP YKS 2024 kabaddi tournament. Despite his Karnataka roots, Omkar relocated to Islampur, Sangli, due to work commitments. His mother, Kamal Rathod, manages their household, while Omkar is the only son among three elder sisters: Jyoti, Komal, and Pooja. Omkar's journey is marked by resilience and determination, having faced financial and family challenges since childhood. Having started working from the fourth standard, Omkar's job at Reliable Enterprises in Islampur involves repairing Aqua Guard units. He manages his expenses, including accommodation and food, and contributes to his family's welfare with his earnings. Omkar's early years were spent in an orphanage due to financial constraints and family issues, where he discovered his love for kabaddi during free hours under the encouragement of coach Nitin Patil. As a left corner defender, Omkar's standout skill is his mastery of the single thigh hold technique. He hones his abilities under the guidance of coaches Nitin Patil and Popat Patil at Islampur Vyayam Mandal. Inspired by junior India player Ankush Rathee, Omkar admires Rathee's skills and emulates his playstyle, particularly due to their similar height. Despite facing personal loss with his father's passing in 2024 during the U-19 school state tournament, Omkar remains steadfast in his aspirations. Representing Sangli in various district tournaments since 2017, Omkar aims to secure a stable job through his kabaddi talent, showcasing his unwavering commitment to both the sport and his future endeavors.
