M Velavan, born on January 26, 2002, hails from Thiruchenampoondi, Tanjore District, Tamil Nadu, and currently resides there. His father, Murugananthan K, works as a farmer, primarily cultivating rice, while his mother, Arulselvi M, manages the household. Velavan has an elder brother named Shanmugaprabhu, although neither of them actively participates in kabaddi. Velavan discovered his passion for kabaddi at the age of 9 and has since developed into an all-rounder, proficient in various positions such as right and left corner defender, as well as left raider. His signature moves include the thigh hold and bonus, which he executes with finesse on the kabaddi mat. Under the tutelage of Dharmaraj Cherlathan and Swamiappan, both esteemed Indian kabaddi players with gold medals, Velavan refines his skills at the Samy Sports Academy. Cherlathan, in particular, serves as a role model for Velavan, inspiring him with his exceptional performance on the right corner. Velavan has represented Tamil Nadu in prestigious tournaments such as the Senior Nationals 2024 and various editions of the Yuva Kabaddi Series, including the Winter Edition 2022 with the Palani Tuskers and the Summer Edition 2023 with the Nilgiri Knights.
