Viraj Thakare, born on December 19, 2001, in Kev, Palghar, Maharashtra, has emerged as a stalwart in the world of kabaddi. Growing up in a close-knit family, Viraj draws strength from his late father, Rajesh, and his mother, Rohini, who tirelessly manages their home. With an elder sister, Dhanashree, as his constant support, Viraj's journey in kabaddi began at the age of 15, influenced by his elder cousin brother's passion for the sport. As an All Rounder, Viraj showcases remarkable versatility on the court, excelling both as a Left Corner Defender and a Right Raider. Under the mentorship of coaches Vishal Patil and Suyog Patil at the village ground in Kev, he hones his skills, particularly mastering the art of the Ankle Hold, a technique he admires in his favorite player, Shubham Shinde of the Bengal Warriors. Despite his dedication to kabaddi, Viraj also displays prowess in Shotput, competing at the district level. Currently pursuing his second year of Bachelor of Arts, Viraj's career highlights include leading his team to victory in the 2023 Palghar Suryavanshi Kshatriya Samaj Mandal Game, marking a historic triumph after 50 years of drought for his team. Looking ahead, Viraj aspires to grace the Pro Kabaddi League, fueled by his unwavering passion and commitment to the sport that has become an integral part of his life.
