M Gowtham, born on October 28, 2002, hails from Mettupalayam, Erode, Tamil Nadu, where he currently resides. His father, Matheswaran, and mother, Poomathi, both work as Cloth weavers. Gowtham has a younger brother named Merunraj. At the age of 7, Gowtham's interest in kabaddi sparked after watching his father and other seniors play the sport. He primarily plays as a Right Corner Defender and is known for his expertise in the Double Thigh Hold technique. Under the guidance of his coach, Vijay, at the Anbuthambi Kabaddi Club in Mettupalayam, Gowtham not only hones his kabaddi skills but also receives assistance with his education. He admires Ajay Thakur, a renowned player in the Pro Kabaddi League, for his playing style and attitude on the mat. Gowtham has represented his district and state in various tournaments, including the South Zone University in 2023 and the Senior State in 2020. He also clinched victory in the Sub Junior State tournament in Kalakurchi in 2018. Apart from kabaddi, Gowtham enjoys playing shuttle and actively participates in other sports. Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree along with his Second Year of Bachelor of Physical Education, Gowtham aspires to secure a job in the police force and represent the Indian Kabaddi team in the future.
