Tanu Thakur, born on March 10, 2003, in Lorha, Sirmor, Himachal Pradesh, currently resides in Sirmor. The daughter of Sri Kalyan Singh, a driver, and Rajo Devi, a homemaker, Tanu comes from a family with a rich blend of interests and talents. Despite having 2 elder brothers, Manoj and Babloo, and an elder sister, Pinky, Tanu is the sole kabaddi enthusiast in the family. Her journey into the world of kabaddi commenced in the 11th standard. Initially harboring a keen interest in the sport, Tanu was somewhat reserved and hesitant to play. It was her teacher, GS Negi, who recognized her potential, shared a passion for sports, and encouraged her to overcome her shyness and fear. Since then, Tanu has evolved into a Left Raider with a versatile skill set encompassing Bonus, Handtouch, Kick, Catch, Block, and Thigh Hold. Under the mentorship of her coaches GS Negi and Amit Kumar, Tanu practices at the Sirmour Academy. Her favorite players include Pushpa Rana from the Himalayan team and Pawan Sehrawat, both admired for their exceptional raiding skills. Tanu boasts representations at various levels, including school, college, district, state, and national competitions. One of her career highlights includes the Beach Games in Daman and Diu in 2024, where she played a crucial role against Tamil Nadu, helping Himachal secure a gold medal in a memorable match. In terms of education, Tanu is pursuing her Masters Degree, having completed her BA and MA. Looking ahead, her future aspiration is to join the police force as a Sub-Inspector (SI), aligning her professional goals with her passion for sports.
